ABOUT THIS ARTWORK

Inspired by the figs growing in my garden, this piece is a small celebration of late summer abundance. My fig trees produce so many fruits that we simply can’t keep up with them all . There are more figs than we could ever eat. The only real way to reduce the harvest would be to prune back every single branch, which is almost impossible given how large and established the trees have become.

The branches, with their broad, lobed leaves and heavy fruit, are shown alongside old glass bottles, while a freshly cut fig reveals its deep colour and delicate interior. A quiet still life about excess, generosity, and the short season of the fig harvest.
