ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
Inspired by the common sunflower (Helianthus annuus), this artwork explores the remarkable geometry hidden within one of nature's most familiar flowers. I wanted to highlight the intricate spiral arrangement of the tiny florets that form the sunflower's head, a pattern that closely follows the Fibonacci sequence and allows the plant to pack hundreds of flowers with extraordinary efficiency. Surrounding the seed head, the curling golden petals mark the flower's transition towards maturity, while a small green grasshopper adds a quiet reminder of the wildlife that shares these summer blooms. Painted with layered watercolour and ink on Hahnemühle Bamboo paper.
