A botanical art print from my original watercolor and graphite painting of Phlox paniculata ‘Bright Eyes’, a beautiful garden phlox that I grow in my garden.

For this painting, I wanted to play with the colours of the plant rather than simply reproduce them. I deliberately pushed the pinks and magentas, accentuating the contrasts between light and shadow and playing with the shapes of the flowers, buds and foliage to create a more vibrant and expressive interpretation.

I love observing the plants growing in my garden and translating what I see into paint, keeping their botanical character while allowing colour and light to become part of the composition. Here, transparent watercolor washes and delicate graphite details help capture the airy abundance of the phlox in bloom, from fully open flowers to unopened buds.
